New Dynamical Symmetry Breaking in Electroweak Theory

A new dynamical symmetry breaking of SU(2)L ×U(1) caused by the combination of the axial-vector component and the fermion mass is found in electroweak theory. The masses of the W and the Z bosons are obtained to be mW = 1 2g mt and m 2 Z = ρmW/cos θW with ρ ≃ 1. They are in excellent agreement with data. The Fermi constant is determined to be GF = 1 2 √ 2m2t . Two fixed gauge fixing terms for W...

Dynamical Electroweak Symmetry Breaking

These lectures explored the idea that the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking arises from novel strong dynamics. We started from the familiar strong-interaction dynamics of QCD, introduced simple dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking models whose strong dynamics imitate those of QCD, analyzed the limitations of these models, and finally moved on to theories whose dynamics differ from tho...

Dynamical Electroweak Symmetry Breaking

We review the status of and recent developments in dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking, concentrating on the ideas of technicolour and top quark condensates. The emphasis is on the essential physical ideas and experimental implications rather than on detailed mathematical formalism. After a general overview of the subject, we give a first introduction to technicolour, and extended technicol...

Implications of dynamical symmetry breaking

An analysis is presented of the physical implications of theories in which the masses of the intermediate vector bosons arise from a dynamical symmetry breaking. In the absence of elementary spin-zero fields or bare fermion masses, such theories are necessarily invariant to zeroth order in the weak and electromagnetic gauge interactions under a global U(N) 8U(N) symmetry, where N is the number ...

Dynamical Symmetry Breaking in a Gauge Theory “ Thirring Model ” ∗

Dynamical fermion mass generation is studied in the three-dimensional Thirring model reformulated as a gauge theory by introducing hidden local symmetry. The analysis by use of Schwinger-Dyson equation is shown to exhibit a critical behavior as the number N of four-component fermions approaches Ncr = 128/3π 2. When we consider the models of massless self-interacting fermions, a central issue is...
